An optimal multiprocessor combinatorial auction solver

چکیده
A combinatorial auction is an auction that permits bidders to bid on bundles of goods rather than just a single item. Unfortunately, winner determination for combinatorial auctions is known to be NPhard. In this paper, we propose a distributed algorithm to compute optimal solutions to this problem. The algorithm uses nagging, a technique for parallelizing search in heterogeneous distributed computing environments. Here, we show how nagging can be used to parallelize a branch-and-bound algorithm for this problem, and provide empirical results supporting both the performance advantage of nagging over more traditional partitioning methods as well as the superior scalability of nagging to larger numbers of processors.

Selecting Efficient Service-providers in Electric Power Distribution Industry Using Combinatorial Reverse Auction
In this paper, a combinatorial reverse auction mechanism is proposed for selecting the most efficient service-providers for resolving sustained power interruptions in multiple regions of an electric power distribution company’s responsibility area. Through this mechanism, supplying the required service in each region is assigned to only one potential service-provider considering two criteria in...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Genetic Algorithm for Advertising Time Allocation Problems
Commercial advertising is the main source of income for TV channels and allocation of advertising time slots for maximizing broadcasting revenues is the major problem faced by TV channel planners. In this paper, the problem of scheduling advertisements on prime-time of a TV channel is considered. The problem is formulated as a multi-unit combinatorial auction based mathematical model. This is a...
متن کاملTime and space complexity of combinatorial auction in Telecommunication
In this paper we evaluate time and space complexity of combinatorial auction solver. The application of combinatorial auction optimization problem in the area of telecommunication is presented. Using random problem instance generator we experimentally measured execution times and the amount of memory used for wide range of optimization problem sizes given as number of goods and number of bids. ...
متن کاملAn Optimal Multi-Unit Combinatorial Procurement Auction with Single Minded Bidders
The current art in optimal combinatorial auctions is limited to handling the case of single units of multiple items, with each bidder bidding on exactly one bundle (single minded bidders). This paper extends the current art by proposing an optimal auction for procuring multiple units of multiple items when the bidders are single minded. The auction minimizes the cost of procurement while satisf...
متن کاملIterative Combinatorial Auctions: Theory and Practice
Combinatorial auctions, which allow agents to bid directly for bundles of resources, are necessary for optimal auction-based solutions to resource allocation problems with agents that have non-additive values for resources, such as distributed scheduling and task assignment problems. We introduce iBundle, the first iterative combinatorial auction that is optimal for a reasonable agent bidding s...
